Learning Environments

The teacher works to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning. The instructor should exemplify the attributes of both a learner and a teacher. He/she should encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and foster student motivation, empathy and self- efficacy.

The teacher can display this standard in a number of ways and should strive to create a stimulating, engaging, safe, and inclusive environment for their students on a daily basis.

I demonstrate this standard by having students engage in partnered reading with younger students. This provides them an opportunity to be a mentor and role model. It helps build self- esteem and empathy.

I also practice this standard providing students with the opportunity to work in small groups. This helps foster a collaborative  learning environment where each                                         person is a teacher and a student.

Another way I demonstrate this standard  is by                                               utilizing technology during whole group discussions to insure all students, including those  with 504 plans can participate in learning in a seamless manner. This          allows them to access instruction  in a way that maintains student privacy and dignity.
