Learner Development

The Learner Development standard requires a teacher to understand how learners grow and develop, and that learner development varies by individual student and area of learning.

Learning development moves along a stage spectrum in a variety of ways and  rates. In a typical K-6 environment an instructor can expect a diverse range and should apply appropriate teaching strategies to insure a students growth in learning. This should include the students social, emotional and linguistic growth as well. The teacher should include the student in developing learning objectives when possible to foster a sense of ownership in learning and academic progress.

I demonstrate this standard by designing activities that provide  differentiated learning by scaffolding for learners utilizing a worksheet and graphic organizer. Using this in a I do, We do, You do format.

Another way I demonstrate the standard is by guiding students in the creation of a flip chart. This allows them to have a reinforcing instrument to study. They can also use it as an aid on homework or assessments if necessary.

A third way this standard is achieved is by providing an interactive learning activity. These encourage a learners development socially as well as cognitively. The students view them as fun rather than a rote learning exercise.
